Relative Prices


One of the things that is most interesting to me before I land on foreign soil is how much things cost.  Most places that tourist frequent, even if they are a bit off the beaten path, tend to work with bartering.  So things can cost as much as you can be gotten for.  Many sites probably don't list prices because they can vary based on the day, the person and the hustle in question.

Despite all this I am going to try to list prices of various items as I see them by country, sometimes by city, so you can have an idea of what I had to spend.  Me, I am an okay bargainer and some of the prices are from fixed priced supermarkets and such.  I will start with Morocco before I forget too much:

Morocco (May - August 2012)

Prices are 5% - 10% higher in Fez than Essaouira for food items and tend to get a bit higher as tourist season approaches (August and probably again in December).

Mint:  1-2 Dirham for a bunch
Mint Tea: 10-20 Dirham
Tomatoes: 3 Dirham/ Kilo
Eggplant: 3-5 Dirham a Kilo
Onions: 2 Dirham a Kilo
Potatoes: 5 Dirham/ Kilo (Red slightly more)
Watermelon: 35 Dirham for a nice sized melon
Avocado: 5-7 Dirham for one
Mango: 8-10 Dirham for one
Oranges: 3-5 Dirham per kilo
Box of orange juice: 30 Dirham
Fresh juice (glass): 10-30 Dirham (based on ambiance of location)
Water (5 Liter): 90-100 Dirham
Pizza: 50 Dirham Per Large Pizza (2 Person)
Tanjine: 40-60 Dirham
Typical Shirt: 100-150 Dirham
Typical Pants: 100-150 Dirham


Bangkok (August 2012 - September 2012)

Pad Thai (Street) : 30 Baht
Pad Thai (Midrange Restaurant): 40-60 Baht
Longans (Kilo): 40-50 Baht
Water (1.5 Liter): 14 Baht
